Tongass Lightweight Upland Pant

Best upland pants i have ever worn!

I just wore these in Northern Michigan for 8 days of hunting. Mid-October, temps ranging from 40 to high 60s, dry, dewy mornings, and then flat out wet conditions that included briars at times. They never disappointed. I'd call them briar resistant, however we did hit a cover we call Chaps, as you need something on your legs, and they passed the test. Most of the time they would shed water, but even if they did become somewhat saturated due to rains the night before, my legs never felt soaked and the pants were normally dry by the next spot. Just a truly incredible product, great work!

Just finished a three day Upland bird trip in Oregon. The pants performed. Fantastically all three days.

I have used the Tongass pants for a couple of seasons now so I felt it was time to write a review. Overall, the pant is very high quality with a high degree of water resistance. However, I would consider the pant too warm for early season and too warm for me for anything under 30°. I definitely would not consider the pant an all season pant. It feels to me like the extra water resistance has resulted in a lot less breathability even though the pant is very lightweight. The Kiowa was my previous “go to” and I considered the Kiowa to be the best Upland pant that I had ever used in over 35 years of Upland bird hunting. I’m not sure why, but the Kiowa was discontinued and even though Pyke customer Service has told me each of the last three years that the pant was going to be re-introduced, it seems pretty clear that’s not going to happen so I guess I’m stuck looking for another pair of pants for early to midseason since my Kiowa pants are extremely worn after very heavy use, hundreds of days, which was amazing for a pant that lightweight. I wanted to love the Tongass pants as much as I did the.Kiowa’s, because I wanted to reward a company that was so innovative in the products they were putting out, but for me, the Tongass pants join a long list of upland pants that I have owned that, while very well-made, just don’t cut it for me and what I am looking for in an Upland pant.

I have been looking for replacement hunting pants for 3 years. The challenge has always been finding pants that did not restrict lifting my legs while pheasant hunting in heavy cover while staying cool. I am happy to say that I finally found a pair that fit well and are comfortable to wear.
I used these pants for a recent hunt through heavy cover in an early season hunt in Minnesota. We had rain the night before and while I was hunting. I felt no restriction while high stepping and busting through tangled grass. Most importantly, my legs didn't sweat. I was comfortable the whole hunt. The uppers did get damp but they dried quickly.
I am happy with the investment.
